A sunrise experience on Easter Island

Fortunately sunrise is after 0730 so we didn't have to get up too early

semi-overcast 7 °C

It would have been a shame to come so far and not experience a sunrise over the Easter Island Moai. We can sleep in anytime.

Picked up at 7.30am with the weather slightly overcast with broken cloud. We'd had rain during the night and windy conditions. The chance of seeing the sun rise over the Moai is therefore not so good. A drive of about 20 minutes across the island which is the longest anyone will drive anyway brought us to the best array of statues at Tongariki. It is the largest array of moai (15) on a ceremonial platform.

It was pretty cold but at times it was going to be possible to see the sunrise through the moai. The pictures tell the rest; you choose whether the effect is good or bad.
